This is just one political (for Profit) group bad mouthing another politcal (for profit) group. She is pushing her book and saying we should Give not Loan.. I think it’s good for the American people to give, but NOT the Gov, the Government is not a charity it should not decide no matter how bad the disaster that it can take the people’s money from they by force (try not paying your taxes) and give it to anyone. I give to charity more than most. My choice, not the gov.
I agree with you. Capitalism, well what it was originally meant for, is not bad at all. But I think we are in times where capitalism has advanced, if you’d like to call it that, to a point where it is synonymous with corporatism. It’s a neoliberal world these days. And I wouldn’t think it naive to suggest that American incentive in Haiti is not purely a government backed policy; in other words, there’s always someone behind the bureaucratic curtains and it usually isn’t your elected official.
….naomi is super to pinpoint problems….but haiti decided long time ago(200 years) to expel/kill the the franch….and haiti has been a disaster zone for 200 years now….and no matter how much money are spent on haiti….haiti will be a disaster zone for the next 200 years…the real problem is to help the rest of hispaniola not becoming a permanent disaster zone…..
I’m starting to hear that Haiti might have a substantial amount of hydrocarbon energy. This might explain why there are so many US soldiers on the ground.

She makes good points and is a smart woman, but blaming capitalism is just silly. Her beef should be with corporatism and the state, not capitalism and the market.
There’s nothing remotely capitalist about governments strong-arming and stealing land and resources from other nations.
Capitailsm is merely the individuals right to own private property. Haitians need more capitalism, not less.
How can a human human even think there is a connection between life, caring and money? Its so wrong.

I am ex American living back in home of birth in the Netherlands.
Generally speaking Americans are the dumbest people on earth. And its not getting any better.
Most of them have never been anywhere and are clueless about the real world.
Yet they keep shouting how ”great” their country is when in FACT, its way down the list in MANY categories.
I call it Archaic and wouldn’t go back for a milloin bucks.
I find it funny, that when you talk to American activists about policies enforced in foreign nations & off-shore abuses, the first thing I hear is, “well, Canada is JUST AS BAD!!” Yeah, Canada does some bad things, but we don’t have the World’s Largest Military, global surveillance or WHINSEC…
the next thing I hear? is that *foreigners should be more grateful to the “Greatest Nation on Earth” for ‘America Leading the Free World’* whatever!

Aristide was already bringing in reforms to the benefit of Haitians. Of course, this didn’t beneift U.S. corps.- which runs the U.S. Congress.
But guess what! THe Corps. are baaaack!

Than why does the US intervene in their politics. Why did the US under Bush jr, deport the ONLY democratically elected Haitian president?
